Clitocybula lacerata is a small to medium-sized agaric fungus with a bell-shaped to convex cap that is 1-4 cm in diameter, grayish-brown to tan in color, and often has a wavy or lobed margin. The gills are crowded, narrow, and pale grayish-brown. It grows solitary or in small groups on the ground in wooded areas, particularly under oak and pine trees. In East and Central Texas, Clitocybula lacerata typically fruits from spring to fall, with a peak in late spring and early summer. The fungus is relatively common in the region, where it can be found in a variety of habitats, including deciduous and coniferous forests, as well as woodland edges and clearings.
