The mushrooms were found growing in a fairy ring around 10 meters in diameter in an old overgrown farm area with nearby trees including Maclura, osage orange, cedar elm, dogwood, oaks, and juniper. They were also observed near an osage orange log, among oak leaves, and under juniper, oaks, and yaupon near a city creek. The mushrooms were found in masses, with young and mature specimens present. Cross-sections and spore prints were taken to aid in identification. Similar observations were made in College Station, Texas, on Kiwanis Nature Trail and in Bee Creek Park, where the mushrooms grew on dry slopes, shady paths, and under various tree species. The mushrooms' caps, gills, and undersides were also observed and documented.
