Extract from Wikipedia article: Lactifluus piperatus (synonym Lactarius piperatus), commonly known as the Blancaccio, is a semi-edible basidiomycete fungus of the genus Lactifluus. Despite being edible, it is not recommended by some because of its poor taste, though can be used as seasoning when dried. The fruiting body is a creamy-white mushroom which is funnel-shaped when mature, with exceptionally crowded gills. It bleeds a whitish peppery-tasting milk when cut. Widely distributed across Europe and eastern North America, Lactifluus piperatus has been accidentally introduced to Australia. Mycorrhizal, it forms a symbiotic relationship with various species of deciduous tree, including beech, and hazel, and fruiting bodies are found on the forest floor in deciduous woodland.

Lactarius piperatus is a species of mushroom characterized by its peppery taste and white to pale yellowish-brown cap. In East and Central Texas, it typically fruits from April to October, often found growing solitary or in small groups on the ground in deciduous and mixed forests, particularly under oak, beech, and pine trees. The cap is 3-8 cm in diameter, convex to flat, with a wrinkled or veined appearance, and the gills are crowded and white to cream-colored. The stem is 2-5 cm long and 0.5-1.5 cm thick, white to pale yellowish-brown, and often tapered at the base. The spore print is white to cream-colored. This fungus is considered edible, but its peppery flavor may not be desirable to all consumers.
