Moniliophthora perniciosa is not found in Texas, however its relative Moniliophthora conchata also known as the fungus that causes crab eye disease or conchata fungus is a basidiomycete fungus. In East and Central Texas it has been isolated from various hosts including trees of the families Sapindaceae and Anacardiaceae. The fungus grows in tropical and subtropical regions, and its optimal growth temperature ranges between 20-25°C.
