Trametes lactinea is a species of polypore fungus that grows on deciduous trees, particularly oak and elm. In East and Central Texas, it is commonly found on living and dead branches, stumps, and logs, typically in wooded areas and along streams. The fungus produces small to medium-sized, semicircular or kidney-shaped fruiting bodies with a white to cream-colored pore surface and a smooth, grayish-brown to black upper surface. It is a saprotrophic fungus, playing a role in decomposing organic matter and recycling nutrients in the ecosystem.
